How to Install Wheel & Tire Accessories

Wheel and tire accessories like lug nuts, TPMS sensors, center caps, and valve stems are key for both safety and style. Here’s how to install them the right way on your truck.

What You’ll Need

  • New lug nuts (ensure correct thread size and style for your wheels)
  • TPMS sensors (if required)
  • Valve stems
  • Center caps
  • Torque wrench and socket set
  • Tire mounting tools (if installing valve stems/TPMS)
  • Work gloves and safety glasses

Step-by-Step Accessory Installation

  1. Lug Nuts: Thread new lug nuts by hand to avoid cross-threading. Tighten in a star pattern with a torque wrench to the manufacturer’s spec. Never use an impact for final tightening.
  2. TPMS Sensors: Install or transfer sensors during tire mounting. Follow sensor manufacturer instructions for pairing/resetting after install. Most tire shops can do this for you.
  3. Valve Stems: Install new stems during tire mounting. Lubricate and pull through the wheel’s valve hole for a proper seal.
  4. Center Caps: Press or screw on center caps after the wheels are installed. Make sure they’re secure and aligned.
  5. Double-Check Everything: After driving 25–50 miles, recheck lug nut torque and ensure no leaks or warning lights.

Quick Tips

  • Always use the correct style and size of lug nuts for your wheels.
  • TPMS sensors may require relearning/resetting—consult your truck’s manual or a professional.
  • Never ignore a TPMS warning light after installation.
  • Keep spare valve stems and lug nuts in your glovebox for emergencies.
